The Future of Doonies Farm - Scotland's largest collection of rare breeds and also an important green space, educational centre, tourist attraction and environmentally friendly use of coastal lands – hangs in the balance.  On 25 June the full Aberdeen Council will vote on whether or not to allow the newly-formed group, Friends of Doonies, to implement its business plan and take over the running of the farm.  Crucial to the farm’s continued existence is the identification of potential sponsors and donors – and in this regard we seek your help.

We are a group of residents that have formed a group, a small group as some may call us. The reasons that we went ahead are so the residents of Torry can have a say in the regeneration of the community, after all they have to live here.
We would like to have the residents input, so if any residents have anything that they would like to contribute or if you would like to come along to the meetings you can get in touch with the secretary.

Would anyone remember the Kavanagh Family formerly of 11 Balnagask Road Torry. I am searching for any old friends from that era, we migrated to Brisbane Australia in April 1965. My father was Daniel (danny) and my ma's name was Violet. My brother is Michael and my sister is Frances. I remember the Essen Family and my cousins were the Riddle Family. Can anyone help? Know the name Creighton Stirton (not sure of spelling) was either a relative or a very good friend.

As the 2006-07 season draws to a close, it is becoming clear that Aberdeen’s most successful school chess club has been…Tullos Primary School!                       Click here to read full details.
Two major trophies have been won by Tullos pupils. The first, the highly competitive Aberdeen P4 & Under Chess Championship Trophy, sponsored by BG Group, was won by Josh Leslie, with long-time tournament leader Scott Arthur (also Tullos Primary), narrowly losing his final match, to finish 2nd. Around 200 youngsters from across the city took part in the qualifying stages of the event with 40 talented 8-year-olds making it through to the final, in April and May. Pupils from more than a dozen schools took part in the event, which was dominated by pupils from Tullos School, who finished 1-2.

The second major trophy to be won was the Lord Provost’s Cup. Every year, all Aberdeen City schools are invited to send pupils to take part in this chess competition, which is held in the historic Town and County Hall in Aberdeen’s Town House.
Callum Strachan (Tullos Primary) played the best chess of his career, winning 10 and drawing one of his 11 games. Runner-up was Scottish U12 International Ian McDonald (Gilcomstoun Primary).
New Lord Provost Peter Stephen made an opening speech to the 50+ competitors and 20 parents/teachers before dashing off to attend a committee meeting, but returned immediately afterwards to watch some play, and present prizes at the close of play.

Cutting-edge security cameras will be installed in an Aberdeen neighbourhood this summer.
Two CCTV cameras will be set up on Victoria Road in Torry to help the community feel safer on the streets.
The cameras will cover Torry’s shopping area and will gather digital images. The “wireless” CCTV system will relay the pictures to Grampian Police headquarters, to wardens and to beat officers via the internet rather than the cable network which normal CCTV relies on.
The £40,000 project is being financed from Aberdeen City Council’s capital budget.
